It is one of the defining elements of jazz. Jazz improvisation is the process of spontaneously creating fresh melodies over the continuously repeating cycle of chord changes of a tune. The improviser may depend on the contours of the original tune, or solely on the possibilities of the chords ' harmonies. Jazz improvisation is such an amazing art form.

jazz improvisation was created and developed as an uniquely American art form, and logically belongs in American music education (35, p. 12). Furthermore, in 1967 the Tanglewood Symposium reported that "music of all periods, styles, forms and cultures belongs in the curriculum" (46, p. 51).

I’ve given you a definition which is “Improvisation in modern jazz is making up your own tune which fits with the chord sequence.” Now you may wonder why it is that this is Session 10 and I am only really starting to consider what is improvisation.
